Our Mission
The mission of Amigos de Animales is to help curb the overpopulation of companion animals in San Miguel de Allende and to help alleviate/eliminate the fear, pain, suffering and misery of homeless animals.
To carry out our mission, we provide free sterilization of dogs and cats to low income pet owners and offer educational programs to children and adults in the care and respect of animals.
Our Philosophy
“The reasons for legal intervention in favor of children apply not less strongly to the case of those unfortunate slaves — the (other) animals.”
- John Stewart Mill
Our philosophy recognizes the value of animals and demands a commitment to serve the most weak and vulnerable — those who lack the ability to speak for or defend themselves, and who are in need of protection against human negligence and mistreatment. Our philosophy calls for the growth of unselfish service in the care of animals that would otherwise remain abused, abandoned, neglected, and starved.
Our History
Amigos de Animales was incorporated as a “not for profit” Mexican association in October 2001 and started operating in February 2002. Amigos de Animales has spayed and neutered over 4000 animals since February 2002.
Our organization is governed by a Board of Directors and operated by officers and volunteers who all work without compensation. U.S. tax-deductible contributions can be made through the San Miguel Education Foundation, the link to which is found on this website at “Donations.” Funds collected go to funding our sterilization and education programs.
